Optimize!

It looks like this might be really good if it could run at a playable speed. But I'm running it on a quad-core machine at low quality and it's too choppy to play. Maybe try locking the scrolling during sets of enemies or something, or keep the sky image stationary or kill the parallax. But right now, the performance is too low to be enjoyable.

SeethingSwarm responds:

If it lags then your computer is too slow. My computer is 4 years old and it runs fine on it, and every other computer, even a 6 year old laptop, runs the game very smoothly. Believe me I've tested it. It can also be because you are running a lot of other stuff at the same time such as a music player like iTunes or another internet browser or another game or something. All of these things make the computer work so much harder and make everything run just a bit slower.

This game is extremely optimized for max performance, and you can also turn the quality to low from the pause menu. Sorry it didn't run very well on your computer, but it's not my fault. I did the best I could (and a damn good job) at optimizing this game for slower computers, and I've tested it out on many different systems, so there...

Haha, fun stuff

I like the division of different game genres for the generators. It actually makes it pretty useful for getting some random inspiration to work from. Nicely done for what it is, so I'm rating it high. Only thing that might make it better is some variety in the phrasing of the ideas, just to spice it up a little more. But yeah, it's a fun little device.

Also:
"You are a mysterious flash developer using a magic pipe on a quest to destroy a super armor set in another world. You will fight impolite goblins and cross exploding pits to reach your goal."

It's so true!

Haha thanks for the encouragement and the suggestions. Nice idea too :D

Slow robot is sloooow

This has potential, but the player robot moves really really slow. And repairs between levels end up costing like 10G per hit taken, which takes up pretty much all the gold that was available in the previous level if the player has taken any significant damage (which is almost unavoidable because the enemy robots move almost twice as fast as the player and there's no way to evade their attacks once they get close).

But if you increase the player's movement speed and maybe add some jumping or something to make dodging deflected lasers possible (and just to spice things up, because jumping is cool), this could be pretty swell.

I like it

Good old Pong, with schmancy new stuff. That's cool.

It would be really nice if the continue button between levels could be done with the space bar instead of having to click. That way we could keep our hands on the controls and not have to switch back and forth.

Looking good so far

I'd suggest making the directional keys control motion and the other keys control attacks (switching the jump and special buttons) just to make it a little more intuitive for people who don't read the instructions. Using keys around the WASD range rather the CTRL-ALT-SHIFT range would be more ergonomic too (I'm a lap typist though, so maybe it's different for those that keep it on the desk during games).

I made it up to the ballpark and moved left a little more and it just went black and did nothing. I'm not sure what that's about, or if you're already aware of it.

Other than that, it plays pretty well. It should be great once you get some powerups and things in there and hook it up with some friggyfresh chiptunes and sound effects and all that. Keep it up.

12 fps?

Is this running at only 12 frames per second? It seems like it is. Kick that up to 30 or 40, adjust the movement speeds accordingly, and this would be pretty awesome. As it is, it's really jumpy and it makes it hard to play.

Neat game

But it takes way too long to reload. Even if you hit the reload button immediately after killing the last enemy in an area, you'll still take hits from the first enemy in the next area because you'll still be reloading. So if you can't do it between waves of enemies without getting hit, and you can't do it during a wave of enemies, there's no strategically advantageous time to do it.

And it's got stick people for the enemies. The 3d effects look really cool, but using stick people kind of detracts from it. It'd be awesome if it had at least some silhouettes of enemy gunmen.

Other than that though, it's a cool game.

Awsome, ill take that into consideration for the next one!

Excellent.

This is one of the most well thought-out and well-executed Flash games I've ever seen. The gameplay is perfectly balanced and fun to play, the graphics and animation fit perfectly and really make it feel like something that could have been a Nintendo game (and one of the best in its genre at that), and everything comes together into a really flawless package. It's one of the few games on this site that was really fun enough to play all the way through. It's obvious you put a lot of work into this. Superb job!

I like this.

The controls remind me of Double Dragon II. I like that. It's not common. It works well.
